People can buy fresh vegetables, herbs, fruit and other goods directly from local farmers and other producers at farmers markets during the summer.

While the big part of a farmers market involves fresh local produce, baked goods, cheese, eggs, flowers, honey, jams, meats, poultry and wine may also be found. Items vary by market.

Farmers markets are usually held in community spaces through the harvest. Washington County has a farmers market for every day of the week, Tuesday through Saturday:

Vendors at farmers markets generally accept credit cards, and honor the Farmers Market Nutrition Program, Senior Farmers Markets Nutrition Program and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program

The Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) gives income-eligible seniors the opportunity to purchase locally grown fruits, vegetables and herbs from approved farmers in PA.

Eligible people receive five $5 vouchers ($25 total) one time during the year. The vouchers may be redeemed at designated area farmers markets through the end of November, according to the SWPA Area Agency on Aging. The Area Agency on Aging link will include a voucher distribution schedule once the schedules are complete.
